Lillian2This information filled workshop will be presented  by Dr Lillian Fawcett, who has over 20 years teaching experience, is an accredited Dyslexia-SPELD specialist teacher and has successfully helped hundreds of students improve their literacy skills.  This workshop will be of particular interest to parents who have concerns about their child’s reading or spelling and parents of young children who want the knowledge to provide the best support for their child’s literacy development.  Lillian has presented this workshop at numerous primary schools to very positive feedback.

Session 1 

  • Find out about the current research regarding acquiring literacy.

  • Discover the ‘spelling code’.

  • Learn a unique and highly successful multisensory technique for effectively teaching spelling that can be applied to any spelling program.

  • Watch the strategies used by a successful speller.           

Session 2

  • Listen to a brief history of the development of the English language.

  • Discover the 5 components of reading competency and how you can help your child develop these skills.

  • Learn a simple strategy for helping your child read unknown words.

  • Find out the importance of daily reading and how you can help your child develop a love of books.

  • Enhance your child’s memory and learning by applying the strategies from the memory research.

Lots of opportunities to practise the skills taught and to ask questions.
