Improving Writing

How can you improve writing skills?

Many students find it difficult to write in a cohesive, interesting and fluent style.  When we ask students to write, often we are just testing their skills rather than teaching them how to write or how to improve their writing.

For students experiencing difficulty in this area, it is beneficial to break the elements of writing into small, specific steps, teach these steps systematically and then provide opportunities for these steps to be practised individually before combining into a large piece of writing.

The Writing Creatively books have been designed to develop students’ narrative writing skills. It is available in two levels. Introduction to Writing Creatively is for younger students (up to around Year 2) who are just learning to write. Writing Creatively is suitable Year 3 to 6 primary school children and older students who are experiencing difficulties with the writing process.

The Writing Persuasively books have been designed to develop students’ expository writing skills. Introduction to Writing Persuasively is for younger students (up to around Year 2) who are just learning to write. Writing Persuasively is suitable for Year 3 to 6 primary school children and older students who are experiencing difficulties with the writing process.
