The ‘r’ Controlled Vowels Wild Cards game provides practice in distinguishing between words containing short vowels and long vowels made by adding an ‘r’ to a vowel (‘ar’ as in car, ‘er’ as in flower, ‘ir’ as in girl, ‘or’ as in fork, ‘ur’ as in church).

- It consists of 110 cards – 96 word cards comprised of 46 minimal pairs (e.g., had-hard, bun-burn, chip-chirp) with one word on each card, plus an additional 26 cards (13 or which contain a word with a short vowel and 13 with an ‘r’ controlled vowel, but not minimal pairs), plus 40 ‘wild cards’ such as pick up a card, miss a turn, skip a player, etc.
